FAQ > Chicopee relocation

Following are a list of questions that have been received regarding Owl's plans to relocate it's existing Chicopee centre to a new Catholic Elementary School in the Grand River South (Lackner Woods) area.

If you have additional questions, please submit them to info@owlchildcare.org

  • 1) My son currently attends Franklin Public School - will there still be a bus to bring them between Franklin and the new centre? (03/03/2009)

The provision of bus service from Franklin has been determined by the Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB). A bus will not be available between Franklin Public School and Owl's new centre in Grand River South.  Concerns regarding transportation should be directed to your school board.

That being said, the full day, alternate day JK/K schedule may enable parents of JK or SK children to continue to bring their child(ren) to this new Owl location regardless of bus availability.

  • 2) What public & catholic schools will this new centre service? What happens children who attend St Anne's, Howard Robertson, & Franklin? (03/03/2009)

The Waterloo Catholic District School Board (WCDSB) completed the boundary review for the new school last year. The boundary for the new school includes some of the students who currently attend St. Daniel, St. Anne and Notre Dame.

The existing Chicopee child care centre is within the St. Anne boundary and so bus transportation is provided for St. Anne students to the existing centre. With the move to the new centre, students not attending the Grand River South school will be ineligible for transportation.

That being said, Owl does not identify specific schools that are eligible for care. Any child is welcome to attend Owl. However, Owl is unable to offer transportation between your child's school and the child care centre.

  • 3) Will there be before school care as well? The letter references only an after school program? (03/03./2009)

The WCDSB reports that at the present time, School Transportation Services of Waterloo Region is anticipating that the bell time for the new school will be 8:30 a.m. If this is the case, then Owl can offer a limited (15 spaces) before school program for JK/K and school-aged children. The reason for this limit is because we do not have access to the school’s kindergarten classrooms in the morning as we do in the afternoon.

However, if the school bell does not ring until 9:00 a.m. (which is decided based on transportation needs within the WCDSB), then Owl would be unable to offer a before school program for school-aged children.  The reason being that with a later school start, we would have too many children in the centre at one time and would be over our licensed capacity.
