The Creative Learning Station provides opportunities for networking, knowledge transfer, professional development and recognition for the early learning community, parents, teachers, community groups and the general public. 

 

 As a professional resource centre, the Creative Learning Station aims to promote shared learning and community engagement to support those who mentor, coach, engage and interact with children and youth: at home, at school, at play.

The Creative Learning Station will be closed the Saturday of long weekends. Time will be made up either on another Saturday, a Monday or a Friday.

 

While at the Creative Learning Station:

 

On your first visit to the Creative Learning Station, we ask that you see the Professional Resource Coordinator to receive direction and guidance on using the machines and materials available to you.

 

Members are required to have their membership card present at all visits to the Creative Learning Station.   We ask that you show personal identification with photo to the Professional Resource Coordinator at the time of your arrival.  If you have pre-purchased a day pass, you must present it upon arrival.

 

A sign in and out clip board will be located at the Professional Resource Coordinators desk, we ask that you sign in upon your arrival and sign out as you leave.  This is the responsibility of the member visiting.

 

During your time at the Creative Learning Station, we ask that you are respectful of the other members in attendance, the materials and machines.  If at any time, the Professional Resource Coordinator deems that there is inappropriate behaviour or language or misuse of materials and equipment, the member or individual with a day pass will be asked to leave.

 

Please use the die presses, Cricuts®, resource books and laminator with care, as if they were your own.  Throughout your stay, maintain a clean and neat environment, and upon leaving, return your work area in the original state. 

 

Equipment Use:

 

The Creative Learning Station provides members with the use of 5 die press machines, with numerous die cut shapes; 2 Cricuts® with over 20 available cartridges, 2 computers with internet access, a binding machine, colour photocopier and a laminator.  Please ask the Professional Resource Coordinator for assistance during your first visit when utilizing these machines.  Signs and instructions are posted to assist you in proper use of the equipment.  If you are unsure at any time, please do not hesitate to ask for assistance. 

 

Only members and people in attendance with a day pass are to be operating the machines.

 

During busy times at the Creative Learning Station, timers may be used to ensure that all members and day pass users will have the opportunity to work where needed.

 

Computer Use:

Members and day pass visitors will have access to 2 computers, where they will be able to search the internet and print out items as needed.  In order to protect our computers from viruses, no personal external devices will be will allowed.

 

A fee will be charged for any items printed.

 

Damage to equipment or materials:

Any damage to the equipment must be reported to the Professional Resource Coordinator immediately.  The member or day pass visitor will be notified of a replacement or repair cost if necessary.  The member or day pass visitor will not have access to the Creative Learning Station until payment for replacement or repair is received.

 

Materials:

The Creative Learning Station provides members with a variety of materials which are available for sale at a minimal cost.  All materials that are purchased at the Creative Learning Station must be paid on the day of use by cash only. Please see Appendix A for a chart of materials that members and day pass visitors may purchase from the Creative Learning Station.

 

Members or day pass visitors are also able to bring their own materials if they wish.

 

Please note that there are additional fees for materials when using the binding machine and laminator.

 

Children in the Creative Learning Station:

 

The Creative Learning Station is for adults only.  For their safety, no children under the age of 12 will be allowed in the Creative Learning Station unsupervised, unless otherwise stated and approved in advance (e.g., for parent and child workshops).

 

Food and Drink:

 

In an effort to keep the Creative Learning Station clean and tidy, food and drinks will not be allowed. Water is permitted at the work tables but not near the equipment (e.g., die presses, Cricuts®).

 

A lunch room is available for CLS members to use. Members are responsible to tidy up after themselves. Please note that a fridge is not available.

 

Workshops and Hands-on Learning Experiences:

 

Members will receive a monthly calendar and newsletter by e-mail announcing workshops and hands-on learning experiences being offered at the Creative Learning Station each month.  It is the responsibility of the member to contact the Professional Resource Coordinator by phone or e-mail if they wish to attend.  Members will receive an e-mail confirming their status (e.g., registered, on waiting list)

Please note that there will be additional charges for all workshops and hands-on learning experiences. Professional development fees will be set based on the materials used, preparation time required and facilitator costs. As a result, fees will change from one workshop to the next and will be noted on the monthly calendar and on our website.

 

Members will receive a discounted rate for workshops and hands-on learning experiences. Day pass holders and non-members will be charged the regular price. Non-members who attend a workshop are not permitted to use the equipment or access the resource library before or after the workshop unless they purchase a day pass.

 

Payment for workshops and hands-on learning experiences must be paid to the Professional Resource Coordinator in advance of the start time.  Failure to provide payment will require the member to leave.

 

Members are asked to contact the Professional Resource Coordinator one week in advance of the scheduled workshop or hands-on learning if they are unable to attend.  Members on a waiting list would then be contacted by e-mail notifying them of a spot.

 

Members, who do not attend or provide the one week notice of cancellation, will be charged for the workshop or hands-on learning experience.  The member will receive an e-mail in regards to the outstanding fee.  Members must pay this fee before they can attend the Creative Learning Station again. Failure to pay the outstanding fee will result in further collection efforts.

 

Lending Resource Library:

 

Members have the opportunity to borrow a number of resource books from the Creative Learning Station library.   Resource books may be borrowed for a three=week period; they cannot be put on hold or renewed.  All books must be checked out with the Professional Resource Coordinator.  At this time, the book will be stamped with the date that it is due. 

 

Please note, that day pass visitors to the Creative Learning Station will not be permitted to borrow the resource books, however, they will be able to utilize them during their visit.

Return Policy:
It is the member’s responsibility to return borrowed resource books to the Creative Learning Station in good condition and on time.  A late fee of $0.25 cents will be charged to the member on a daily basis until the book is returned.  The member will receive a reminder by e-mail if the book is one week overdue.  Payment of late fees and return of book(s) must occur before the member can visit the Creative Learning Station.

 

Damaged or Lost Books:

It is the member’s responsibility to replace any lost or damaged books.  The member will be notified of the replacement cost and payment must be received before returning to the Creative Learning Station.

Items for Sale:

Members will have the opportunity to purchase pre-made items such as flannel board stories, idea packages, and games to make for a minimal fee.  New items will be made available at the beginning of each month.

 

Great Wall of Ideas:

Have a great idea?  Bring your ideas to the Creative Learning Station so that we can add them to our “Great Wall of Ideas”.  Each time you bring an idea; the Professional Resource Coordinator will take a picture and add it to the wall.    Let’s fill our wall!

 

Membership Information:

 

Memberships can be purchased any time throughout the year.  Memberships expire one year from the date of purchase.

 

young adults of the ages of 12 or 13 may purchase a membership, as long as a parent or guardian is also a member.  Members who are 12 or 13 must be supervised by a parent or guardian.  Once the member is 14, they are able to vist the Creative Learning Station on their own.

 

Memberships are non-transferable.

 

Fees:

Annual Membership for members 14 years and older:                       $30.00

Annual Membership for members 12 and 13 years of age:                $15.00 (parent or guardian must also be a member)

Day Pass:                                                                                            $6.00 day pass

 

Group memberships and day pass packages (e.g., 5, 10, 15 or 20 passes) are also available.  Please contact the Professional Resource Coordinator for prices and to discuss your needs.

 

Membership Renewals:

It is the responsibility of the member to renew their membership before their expiry date.  If a membership goes stale for three months, a $10.00 processing fee will apply if a request to renew the membership is later submitted.

 

Membership Card Replacement:

Members will be charged $5.00 for any lost or damaged cards. Lost or damaged day passes will not be replaced.

 

Name Change:

If you legally change your name and wish to have your membership card changed, a $5.00 fee will be charged.

 

Transferring of Name for Group Memberships:

Organizations with a group membership may transfer individual member privileges to new staff throughout the year.  A $5.00 fee will charged for each name change.  The old card that is no longer in use must be returned to the Creative Learning Station.

 

Membership Termination:

The Creative Learning Station reserves the right to revoke a membership at any time.  Members who do not comply with the CLS procedures, have outstanding fees, misuse the equipment or who are not respectful and act inappropriately while at the Creative Learning Station can be suspended or terminated without notice.
