Program Name: Toddler 1

This month in toddler 1 we have noticed how much the toddlers enjoy getting down and dirty. We have been playing in the forest and sand box, we expanded their play by making a messy potions sensory activity. We had cups filled with different mixtures; food colouring, shaving cream, baking soda, vinegar, watered down paint and glitter. The children were a little timid at first but quickly warmed up to the idea of getting messy. Rian was super excited to squeeze the vinegar into the baking soda containers. He giggled as the baking soda started to bubble, he said “Look at it, it make bubbles”. Amelia loved squishing the shaving cream with pink paint and pink food colouring mixed it between her fingers. Tiar was squeezing red and yellow paint in his container of shaving cream, he added water and then dumped it into one of the bigger sensory bins he laughed as he watched the paint and shaving cream splat in the bin. Easton was working on his grasping, by having two cups and dumping and scooping the liquid back and forth. Miles was very interested in the shaving cream and adding paint to the containers, he kept signing more when he needed more shaving cream in his bowl. By the end of the activity we had very colourful children and lots of smiling faces.
