Welcoming Spring Through Creative Collaboration

Program Name: School-age 2

In School Age Group 2, we celebrated the arrival of the new season by incorporating vibrant colors and beautiful flowers into our program. The children showed great enthusiasm for the open art table, where they were encouraged to express their creativity freely and share their ideas with one another.

During our discussion, we explored the changes in nature and how Mother Nature begins to wear a “green and colorful jacket” in spring. The children were provided with a large canvas and a variety of bright colors of their choices to create a collaborative artwork piece representing the season. Instead of paintbrushes, cotton swabs were offered as an alternative tool.

As the children gathered around the table, they began exchanging ideas and building a plan together. This process supported the development of important social skills such as listening to one another, respecting different opinions, taking turns while speaking, and working collaboratively as a team. Leadership skills also began to emerge naturally during the activity.

Robynne suggested, “let’s put green leaves as the background.” Charlotte excitedly added, “we can use fingerprints since we don’t have brushes.” Carter encouraged the group by saying, “let’s start, it’s a big canvas and we have a lot to do.” Elena confidently shared, “I know how to make flowers with cotton swabs, and I will show you don’t worry about it.”
