This month, the School-age 3 children engaged in an exciting and creative project that is building their own mini ecosystems. The activity began with a discussion about what an ecosystem is and how living and non-living things depends on each other. The children were then given various printed pictures to choose from, reflecting their unique interest and imagination. Iggy, Fred and Jaxon chose Halloween-themed spooky houses filled with ghosts and pumpkins, while others preferred a jungle safari having animals and trees. Chayce and Eleanora were drawn to modern, imaginative world like Roblox and Netflix show Delicious in Dungeon, showcasing how their creativity blends with popular culture. After selecting their themes, the children carefully cut out their chosen images and thoughtfully arranged them inside small boxes, creating their own version of that ecosystem. Iggy shared his thoughts about how our ecosystem is getting depleted because of the pollution. They worked together, shared materials, and discussed why certain elements belonged in their ecosystem. This activity included lots of cutting and folding so it encouraged children to practice and work on their Hand-eye coordination. Not only this, through this project, children demonstrated strong fine motor skills, decision-making, and collaboration. It was wonderful to see how each box reflected their personality and understanding of the world around them. This activity encouraged imagination, environmental awareness, and teamwork making it a truly meaningful learning experience that connected science with creativity.
