Planting

School-age 2

This month we decided to do planting as an activity with the children. A large group of girls were eager to participate, including Leila G, Layla P, Claire S, Claire Q, Hannah, Madeline, Gurnaaz, Aubrey, and Audrey. The materials we used were soil, flower seeds, and cups. With some guidance, each child scooped soil from the bag and put it in their cups; next they added a flower seed, more soil, and a bit of water to top it off. This is the process on how plants grow!

Previously, Leila was asked if she knew about planting and she said, “yes” because she "helps my family with gardening at home". Leila taught us the sequence for planting, which included soil, seed, soil, and a bit of water to help grow the flower. This helped us foster our mathematic skills.

With this activity, the educators learned from the children and the children learned from us as we shared the steps together. If we could change anything about this activity- it’s that we would do it outside, in the natural environment, to help mitigate the mess a bit!
