Tell us a bit about yourself and why you chose RisingOaks Early Learning for your family’s child care needs?
I am a human resource professional passionate about human capital development as early as possible. I do not have a child in care but was impressed by the standard of care observed from RisingOaks publications and reviews from community members who have their children in care.

Why did you decide to get involved with RisingOaks’ Board of Directors?
I chose to be involved because I am passionate about community and appreciated the opportunity to be a representative of my community on a board whose activities directly and indirectly impact the BIPOC communities. I hope to contribute to decisions that increase diversity and inclusion, and also have the opportunity to learn board governance from an established and excellent organization.

How has being a Director on the Board benefited you personally and professionally?
Personally, I've had the opportunity to meet with great people, and learn from them, and understand the complexities of the child care system. Professionally, being a board member of RisingOaks has given a boost to my career profile as evidence of my leadership competences.

How do you find work-life balance and still meet your commitment to RisingOaks' Board?
The meetings are conveniently scheduled in the evenings and well in advance, giving sufficient time to prepare and attend the meeting. Time management is key, of course. Also, the board meetings are structured to build connections as we learn and contribute, so it's not so hectic but a valuable time out amongst respected colleagues if not friends.

What is a favourite book that you've enjoyed reading with your child?
My son enjoys bedtime stories. Originals that I create. It's our special time together. As he's gotten older, he enjoys reading comics and adventure tales. Our favourite sequel so far in his reading journey has been Diary of a Wimpy Kid. You'll often hear us laughing out loud at something, then debating how a different response might have been better.
