June is a wonderful month for so many reasons! It marks the end of the school year, and our School-age 1 children are buzzing with excitement for summer vacation. Our senior kindergarteners are celebrating a big milestone as they prepare to move up to grade one — congratulations to them! And of course, June is also Pride Month.
One thing our School-Age One group has always loved is coloring rainbows throughout the year. So this month, we used that love for rainbows as a meaningful entry point to explore some of the many beautiful messages they represent — especially during Pride Month.
In our JKK program, we’ve been watching videos, having open conversations about what pride means, and creating all kinds of crafts that celebrate love in all its forms. Our children really connected with the phrase “love is love”, showing understanding and empathy in recognizing that everyone has the right to be who they are and love who they love.
In School-Age One, we actively celebrate diversity. We work hard to foster an inclusive environment where all children feel safe, accepted, and valued. Through thoughtful, age-appropriate conversations, we help our friends understand the importance of fairness, kindness, and treating others with respect — both inside and outside our classroom. These small but powerful lessons help build a world where everyone, regardless of their identity, feels seen and supported.
We believe it’s important to approach Pride Month in a way that’s respectful of where each child is in their learning journey. That means allowing them to ask questions freely and making sure our answers are honest, factual, and kid-friendly — never forcing conversations, but always welcoming curiosity.
We’ve had a joyful time learning, creating, and growing together this month. Happy Pride Month from School-Age One!
