The School Age 2 children have been busy exploring the festival of Holi through various activities. For one of the activities, we watched a short video to learn about Holi and why it is celebrated. The children learned that Holi is known as the festival of colours and it is a time when people celebrate happiness, friendship, and togetherness.
During our discussion, some children shared their own experiences about Holi. Emilia shared that her uncle celebrates Holi because he is from India. Elena said she celebrated Holi with her cousins. Aarush told the group that he used to celebrate Holi when he was in India. Charlotte also shared that she celebrated Holi in her classroom.
After the discussion, the children were excited to work together to create a Holi poster. They cut colourful paper into paint-splash shapes and carefully pasted them onto a large sheet of chart paper. Collaboratively, they designed a bright and vibrant “Happy Holi” poster, proudly celebrating the festival of colours.
Next, the children participated in a sensory activity using baking soda and colourful paint. They explored the materials by touching, mixing, and spreading the colours with their hands across the table. The children seemed to enjoy observing how the colours blended together while also experiencing the different textures through hands-on exploration.
Through these activity, the children explored creativity, sensory play, and teamwork. They also learned about a cultural celebration and the importance of sharing and learning about different traditions. This experience supported children’s sense of belonging and well-being as they shared their experiences and worked together. It also encouraged engagement and expression through art, creativity, and sensory exploration. The children were able to learn about cultural diversity while expressing their ideas and experiences with their peers.
