Pretend grocery shopping game

School-age 3

This month, the children enjoyed a fun and engaging pretend play experience through a grocery shop game. Iggy confidently chose to be the shopkeeper, while Chayce played the customer. Together, they helped set up the shop using cut-out vegetables, yogurt pictures, and a colourful shop banner. The children showed creativity and focus as they designed the shop space and arranged the items carefully, talking together about where everything should go. During the play, the children talked about what they needed to buy for their house for the whole month. They counted vegetables, compared items, and worked out how much money they needed to spend. This supported early math skills such as counting, number recognition, and simple problem solving in a fun and meaningful way. Their language skills also grew as they asked questions, made choices, and shared ideas with each other. An exciting twist was added when Iggy introduced a lucky draw. The children took turns throwing darts to win free groceries, which brought lots of laughter and joy. As the game continued, Chayce said, “I need carrots and yogurt for my family,” and Iggy replied, “Okay, that will be five coins, or now you can try the lucky draw!” This encouraged turn-taking, sharing, teamwork, and patience while building connections with each other.
