Exploring Tinsel

  • Infant

This month in the infant room we welcomed all new babies. Michelle had brought out tinsel for the first day and the infants really enjoyed exploring their senses: the sound it made and the way it felt. This sparked an idea for the infant educators to hang a hoola hoop from the ceiling with tinsel hanging down. We used two different kinds: the same long thin string ones we had in the sensory bin, as well as some larger shaped tinsel.

The infants babbled and smiled as they come over to check out the hanging tinsel. “What do you think?” Michelle asked smiling. “Do you like the sounds it makes when you touch it?” Kayla asked. We had so much fun crawling back and forth through the tinsel and shaking it to hear the fun sounds. Maybe next time we’ll put some tinsel in water and see how the infants enjoy that texture.
