Mother's Day Crafts

  • School-age 2

The month of May has been filled with creativity, laughter, and heartfelt moments in our school-age program as we prepared for one of the most meaningful celebrations of the year—Mother’s Day. Our children have been enthusiastically involved in hands-on activities that allowed them to express appreciation for the important people in their lives while also building artistic skills and confidence.

We began the month with a vibrant handprint painting activity that quickly became a classroom favorite. Each child had the opportunity to choose their own paint colors, mix shades, and experiment with patterns before pressing their hands onto paper to create their designs. Some children turned their handprints into flowers, abstract art, while others focused on creating layered prints to show growth and change. This activity encouraged sensory exploration and creativity, while also giving children a chance to reflect on how their hands help them do kind things for others—like helping at home, sharing with friends, or creating something special.

As the project progressed, children took time to add personal touches. We observed wonderful moments of focus and pride as they carefully worked to make their artwork just right. These handprint creations are more than just art—they are keepsakes that capture a moment in time and the individuality of each child.

In addition to painting, our group explored working with air-dry clay to create heart-

shaped keepsakes. This activity introduced children to new textures and techniques as they rolled, shaped, and molded their clay into hearts. They practiced patience and fine motor skills while smoothing edges, carving small details, and decorating their pieces with patterns, imprints, and initials.

Once the clay had dried, the children painted their hearts using a variety of colors and finishes. Some chose bright and bold designs, while others preferred soft, pastel tones. Throughout this process, children were encouraged to think about what makes their mothers or caregivers special and how they could reflect that in their creations.

These activities also created space for meaningful conversations. The children shared stories about their families, talked about ways they show love and appreciation at home, and expressed excitement about surprising their loved ones. It was heartwarming to hear their thoughtful ideas and see the genuine care they put into each craft.

As we wrap up the month, the children are eagerly looking forward to presenting their handmade gifts. We hope these creations bring smiles, happy tears, and cherished memories to your homes. Each handprint and clay heart carry a message of love, appreciation, and pride.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our families for your continued support and for sharing your wonderful children with us each day. It is a privilege to watch them grow, create, and express themselves in such meaningful ways.

Wishing all mothers, grandmothers, and caregivers a truly special and Happy Mother’s Day. May your day be filled with love, appreciation, and the beautiful reminders of how much you are cherished.
