The preschoolers were busy little builders during our Three Little Pigs activity! The educators watched as the children carefully created houses out of loose parts for the pigs. Some children stacked small bricks tall and strong, while others used mulch and sticks from outside to design creative homes. The children talked excitedly about which house would be the safest from the Big Bad Wolf. After building, the children had so much fun painting pig faces with bright pink paint, giggling as they added eyes, noses, and rosy cheeks to their pigs.
This activity showed wonderful creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork. The children explored how different materials could be used to build strong or weak houses, just like in the story. They practiced fine motor skills while balancing loose parts and painting carefully with sponges. The children also used their imaginations as they retold parts of The Three Little Pigs and shared ideas with friends about how to keep the pigs safe from the wolf.
Next, we can continue the fun by acting out the story together! The children could use their pig masks and loose-part houses to retell the tale in dramatic play. We might also experiment with “wolf huffing and puffing” by using a fan or blowing air to test which houses stay standing. This would encourage even more predicting, experimenting, storytelling, and laughter as the preschoolers explore the classic story in new ways.
