The New Year gifted us with wonderful, fluffy, cold, white snow! The toddlers were excited to explore the magnificent substance as they patiently watched it fall from the sky after nap time. Anna commented, "look Kenzie, look at all of the snow". The children looked outside with excitement and wonder as they dreamt of what they could all do with the snow.

The cold weather has helped keep the snow stuck to the ground. Each day the room fills with anticipation as the educators bring in everyone’s outdoor clothes. The children have been testing their self-help skills while taking their winter clothes on and off. Once we were outside, the children request the sleds, shovels, and other snow toys. The children loved taking turns sitting in each educator’s sled as they transport them across the playground. We went up, down and all around the hills and structures. The children have begun using their muscles to pull one another. Audrey took a sled and instructed Samuel to sit down. Audrey took hold of the rope and attempted to pull with all of her might. Finnigan noticed Audrey’s efforts and decided to join in by guiding from the back of the sled. Together, they pushed the sled across the pavement and onto the snowy trail.

We are excited for the winter to continue. When the seasons change, it provides us with new opportunities for learning and exploration. Snow can be manipulated in infinite ways. I wonder what we will discover next as we observe the seasons change and the snow come and go?
