School-age 2

In School-age 2, the children made playdough and ran a restaurant! Using their measuring skills, they had lots of fun participating in the process of making playdough. The educator told them the recipe and the children measured and put the ingredients in the bowl themselves. Once the playdough was done, the children used it to make food for their restaurant! They were running a very busy breakfast diner, with each of them playing the roles of servers, chefs, and customers.

The children organized the workflow of the restaurant themselves. Gavin said, “Guys, we should have a waiter and a chef before we have customers.” Korah said, “I wanna be the waiter!” Ezra said, “I wanna cook.” Maria said, “I’m the boss but I’m gonna help.”

After deciding on the roles, Maria and Korah called for customers. They said, “Everyone! The restaurant is now open! If you want food, sit on this table.” Educators and friends were invited to sit at the table and they ordered a variety of food such as cakes, dumplings, and tea with maple syrup. The restaurant ran smoothly and all the customers were satisfied. By cooperating with each other and using their problem-solving skills, the children were able to enhance their sense of belonging and engagement, and everyone had fun together playing restaurant!
