Winter Snowflakes

School-age 1

This month the children from school-age 1 have shown their interest in creating fun winter activities. This has helped them to express their creativity, use their imaginations, and develop nurturing relationships. In order to do this, we created an activity where the children could work collectively to foster their understanding of teamwork and belonging.

The children were provided with a long brown sheet of paper that was tapped on each end of the table to make sure the paper did not move. An educator then outlined and drew multiple snowflakes, big and small, for the children to use as a guide. Next the children were given white pieces of paper to rip into tiny pieces, which then allowed them to enhance their fine motor skills. The children also glued each ripped piece of paper on top of the lines that shaped the snowflakes. This helped to develop their hand eye coordination and encouraged conversations with peers and educators about different techniques and strategies on what they created.

This art activity that the school-age 1 group shows is imagination, social skills and confidence. In the end, the children were able to follow instructions, better develop fine motor skills, hand eye coordination, and social skills.
