The children and educators in School-Age Group 2 collaborated on a fun and engaging learning experience to celebrate Cinco de Mayo and explore aspects of Mexican culture. As part of the activity, the children created traditional Mexican sombreros using disposable paper plates and cups, along with paint, glue, and pom-poms. This hands-on activity encouraged creativity, fine motor development, and artistic self-expression.
Educators also provided the children with age-appropriate information about the cultural significance of Cinco de Mayo, helping to deepen their understanding and appreciation of Mexican traditions and history. The children participated in coloring the Mexican flag and listening to a variety of traditional and contemporary Mexican music, which further enriched the learning experience.
In addition, the group engaged in a meaningful discussion about the importance of this celebration in Mexico. Children such as Laura, Caia, and several of their peers actively contributed their thoughts and ideas during the conversation, demonstrating curiosity and engagement.
Throughout the year, Group 2 has explored and celebrated a variety of cultures and traditions from around the world. These experiences provide children with valuable opportunities to develop cultural awareness, respect for diversity, and a broader understanding of the communities and traditions that make up our multicultural world.
